I seldom throw anything away. Plus I collect anything and everything. Do you know the feeling or are you one of those people who live immaculate lives in immaculate houses. I have virtually a small museum at home (my wife says there's no virtual about it.) So to lighten the mood after my last blog, (which I will comment on shortly) three items from my collection you may find interesting. What are they? And I bet the 'oldies' amongst you identify the objects quickest! The third item in particular has a very interesting history. What do you 'treasure'? Have you any items, keepsakes, not necessarily of value you 'own'. Any items that will be handed down? (I suspect most of mine will finish up in a skip!) Any items that are ancient? (On my wall are family photos, one of great grandmother must be going back a bit, I reckon she was born around 1840.)

Not sure Ken but they're lovely objects. The third is I believe a meat-hook.A little museum? Then it would all end up treasured and respected and fascinate.
Treasured items? I like a house to be a home, not jammed to the rafters,I hate dusting but with items that have sentimental value..my Grandfather's microscope, pokerwork boxes made by Mum,pottery from an old family friend etc.
The third looks like a grappling hook, are you planning to escape ?
An strap adjuster or tensioner.
A device for twisting twine or cables
A grappling hook.
I am a hoarder I am sorry to say!
The second is a can opener? and the third is a meat hook?
Nuts in May
I'm so glad I'm not the only one with a minimalist home. I recently visited a friend whose home is so neat and tidy, I felt I should come home and throw 3/4 of our stuff away immediately! But we're attached to it, so I shan't.
The first object is reminiscent of a buckle, but I have no real idea what any of them are/do. Sorry!
Five comments. I'll give a clue after each five.
One of the three objects has been identified correctly. Aged seventy and teasing. My wife is right, I'm in my second childhood!
The third is absolutely, definitely Batman's grappling hook. The second looks like a hand drill - where's the bit? and the first I haven't got a clue about - but looks like a pulley of some kind
1 A buckle
2 Used to wind twine/wire/string
3 and I'll go along with other suggestions of a grappling hook.
I do have a few treasured possessions including a hand mirror that belonged to my grandmother, a postcard size watercolour and my own doll, now about 60 years old (the doll - I'm older)!
Ken, the best thing about being in your second childhood, is that you usually have more money to spend than in your first:D
Yes, I'm a hoarder, we were brought up to make do and mendm which included keeping anything that may be useful in the future.
This is a great idea, posting pics of unusual things you have around your house. The 3rd looks like a grappling hook, as others have said, but I'm not sure about the first 2. My dad had a box full of unusual old tools and gadgets, wonder where they all went?
Humm...Ken..not sure about any of them. One looks like an anchor of some kind (to me anyway) and the other two...?? The only "old" thing that I keep around is my husband...(kidding)-I've got grandmas coffee sets and her old coffee grinder but because I moved so far from home most of the good "junk" is at my parents house. Had an old uncle that kept anything and everything though..loved to poke around in his garden shed.
Number 2 has a rotating disc just out of sight. Is it abrasive? or a 'buffing/polishing' disc. The gearing is to give it speed obviously.
It is therefore placed onto the top of something and turned...but what?
I will guess at "A device for polishing the scratches off watch glasses"
Still only one out of three. Clue number two, one is connected with the retail trade.
You are really just trying to get your 'hit rate' up!
What sort of clue is "Retail Trade" Ken? There are thousands.
OK I plum for...Tailor.
It has a left hand thread on one side and a right hand thread on the other.
Therefore on turning the bar, the two sides expand outwards. It is therefore used to expand....an armhole!
No, I know....a HAT STRETCHER.
Grappling hook for the last one, I think, but the others stump me. The second one could be some sort of clothes trimmer - or even fishing rod reel!
All will be revealed. Two out of three aint Bad. The third item is medical.
OK then Ken it's "Hard Skin Grinder".
also for corn's, bunion's and wart's!
Well how about a verruca grinder then?
No?
A mole remover?
It looks as if it is meant to grind or remove something at great speed!
Dickie
Closer/closish but not close enough.
My last attempt and then I give up.
I have no knowledge of medical bits.
So how about a device for cutting holes in ??? to make Corn Plasters!
I give up!
Thanks to you all for being such good sports. I will do a short explanation shortly.
You are all great but a special mention to Dickie. Who of course has the advantage of remembering the articles in question being used.
I can't tell you want the photos are of, but they certainly look as if they belong in a museum.
Having read SJA's comment, my dolls are up in the loft together with their extensive wardrobes of clothes.
Comments to follow after a follow up article Saturday.
