I Know What That Is Number 2.

It's no secret I'm a hoarder and have a veritable museum plus fortunately a sympathetic long suffering wife who allows an old man's idiosyncracies. Some of the items are instantly recognisable. Butter churn, telephones, bedpan, box cameras. Others are more perplexing. Four more to test both young and old. No-one was completely right concerning the objects on view on the 21st January. Care for another go? It does not suggest you are a geriatric if the items are immediately recognisable, just clever! A note of caution. Beware of something that looks obvious. Also size is deceptive, but all are photographed on a small table. Plus a little clue. I would consider three out of four more inclined to be used by the ladies rather than the gents.

Award for you over at mine...don't worry about the conditions, you have enough to do finding things that puzzle us all...

Had second thoughts on No3.
It's to do with ironing and putting folds into ....things that need folds! Years ago they would put the wrinkles in a ruff.

1. Thing for holding a ball of wool or a ball of twine.
2. Still thinking about that one.
3. For making ringlets in girls hair.
4. Something to do with lace making? Or spinning?

I did not look ahead in case you posted what the things were...but I guess that pic number one is I HAVE NO IDEA. I guess pic number two is a DARNING TOOL. My grandmother had one that looked very much like the thing you have posted. You pulled a sock over the big rounded thing and darned the sock while holding on to the handle. The pic number three looks like an old curling iron, the kind you heated on the stove or in the fire but maybe not because the curved tip makes me wonder. Pic number four is another I HAVE NO IDEA. Great blog by the way.

Putting a flange on, or 'belling out' the end of a lead pipe. Used by plumbers.
Actually at first I thought it may have been used by a panel-beater.
I have a number of PB hammers and one of them is wooden.

I think number 2 has something to do with sewing....I remember my mom having something like that. Sewing or mending...socks maybe?

Number 4 is what I know as a plumb bob as used by carpenters , builders and wall paper hangers. I is also known by dowsers when fitted with line as a pendulum.

Ken I think you could do with a visit from the "How Clean is my House" team. They would sanitize you, clear you out, make your home a clutter free zone and much, much less interesting.
